Traditional psychology asks: “What’s wrong with you?”

Trauma-informed therapy asks: “What happened to you?”

Culturally-informed therapy asks: “What happened to your people?”

Liberatory therapy asks: “What continues to happen to you and your people?”

About community-based therapy …

Why should someone seeking counseling choose a grass roots, community-based therapy practice over a therapy app or industrialized therapy practice run by a private equity tech firm?

Seeing a therapist in a community-based practice offers personalized, consistent care with a focus on your unique needs, background, and therapeutic goals.

A personalized interaction facilitates a more nuanced and effective therapeutic relationship, which is crucial for addressing complex or sensitive issues.

Unlike therapy apps or practices that may use standardized approaches or AI-driven interventions, a community-based therapist provides a human connection, builds a deeper understanding of your personal history, and can adapt treatment in real-time based on your progress, even through telehealth.

Additionally, non-commodified therapists prioritize your confidentiality, whereas publicly-traded practices may compromise client information due to data sharing practices and often prioritize shareholder profit over individual care.
